This week i began a new painting. The reference photo for this one was taken at Rocky Mountain National Park )entrance to Wild Basin trails. I really liked the play of the rushing water and the still water, and the colors of and under the water.
The canvas I’m using is 16″ x 20″. I began with a a couple of thumbnail drawings to be clear as to what i wanted composition-wise. Then i drew in charcoal (then sprayed) on the canvas. Today i began blocking in the darks. The goal here is not to worry about the colors or textures being “right”, but just to begin to get the feel of the values.

I love your explanation for selecting this photo to paint. I look forward to watching it rise up out of the canvas. Nice beginning!
