Bird House do-over

I decided to start fresh and redo the latest bird house painting. the angles were not right on the bird house, and i wanted to move it over to the left. I also wanted to give myself more practice with painting the foliage in the loose way I’ve been trying in the past couple of weeks. also, i had the foliage to the right of the tree going in front of the tree when it should have looked like it might be behind the tree. And then i had some fun playing with putting birds in the tree. There are 5 birds — one of the yellow ones is supposed to be partially hidden behind the foliage. Feel free to let me know if you think this works!

Excellent! Not sure I would have pegged that one bird as being behind the foliage if you hadn’t mentioned it, but I don’t look for detail in a painting unless specifically requested. Now. What is the cardinal doing in with 2 yellow and 2 brown birds? You’d think somebody with that bright plumage would come with backup. I saw a cardinal just like this at the attorney’s office a week or so ago and it really stood out. But it also forgot to bring backup. He had landed in a tree that produces some kind of dark, small berry and he appeared to be  a glutton. Personally, I was not tempted to check out the berries. But I digress (so what else is new?) Doing this one over was a splendid idea. I love what you’ve done with the foliage. Considering the subject matter, there is no problem knowing exactly what that foliage is. Kudos all around. Love,m

The bird house itself is much improved, as is the tree trunk. I really like the way you have represented the bark. I think the hidden bird might just as well not be there, but the others are good. It seems that in real life they might not all be pointing in the same direction. (Just a thought.) The foliage is quite impressionistic, but there is no question of what you mean to convey there. Overall I do like the new version of this painting. It’s a keeper.

Thanks for your comments. Yes, i did have the thought that maybe the birds ought not all be facing the same direction. I guess i was imagining they are all waiting for some food to arrive near the bird house.
